Ahtanum State Forest, located about 30 miles west of Yakima, provides a variety of recreation opportunities, including camping, bird watching, hiking, horseback riding, off-road vehicle riding, mountain biking, snowmobiling, hunting, and off-road-vehicle riding. .
Blanchard-DNR’s Northwest Region offers diverse recreation opportunities and breathtaking views across the Salish Sea and mountain ranges of western Washington. Off-road vehicle, Kayak, Hiking, Horse Back Riding, and Island Camping, to name a few.
Capitol State Forest is a beautiful recreation destination just a short drive from Olympia. Venture into the 110,000-acre forest for an adventure horseback riding at Mima Falls, spotting salmon in McLane Creek, mountain biking at Rock Candy, off-road-vehicle riding at Porter Creek – or all of the above!
Elbe Hills and Tahoma State Forests, horseback riding and off-road vehicle, hiking, and camping. Winter and Summer hut-to-hut overnight accommodations. Tahoma State Forest is a destination for winter activities, including cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing,
Green Mountain & Tahuya State. Off-road vehicle, hiking, trail running, mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing, and hunting and day-use picnic and motorcycle riding. Each year more than 150,000 recreationists visit Green Mountain State Forest, while Tahuya State Forest draws 200,000 visitors.
Little Pend Orielle is located in northeast Washington near Colville, the Little Oreille Forest block provides diverse recreational experiences, including camping, off-road-vehicle riding, fishing, mountain biking, and winter activities.
Loomis and Loup Loup State Forests, located in Okanogan County, provide dynamic opportunities for camping, hiking, off-road vehicle riding, fishing, and hunting. Whether you’re looking to camp at a high-altitude fishing lake, like Loomis State Forest’s Chopaka Lake, or all-terrain-vehicle ride, popular near Loup Loup State Forest’s Sportsmen’s Camp, these landscapes have something for everyone.
Naneum Ridge State Forest is open year-round for dispersed recreation activities along 109 miles of green dot roads in the forest. camping, hunting, hiking, off-road-vehicle riding, and wildlife viewing. About 279 miles of forest management roads for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking.
Olympic Peninsula include hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, motorcycling, and off-road vehicle riding. Campgrounds have river or lake access for boating, fishing, and other water activities. The region is located near the Olympic National Park, Hoh Rain Forest, Olympic National Forest, Olympic Experimental State Forest, as well as the many coastal beaches in the region.
Teanaway Community Forest, a beautiful recreation destination situated at the headwaters of the Yakima Basin watershed. Since Native Americans first inhabited the area 11,500 years ago to the present, people have thought this 50,241-acre forest to be special.
Tiger Mountain and Raging River state forests located near Issaquah, offer’s a diverse range of recreation opportunities, including hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, hang gliding, and paragliding.
Klickitat County six miles northeast of Glenwood lies the 2,405-acre Klickitat Canyon Community Forest covering a swath of canyons and mixed conifers. Fish and wildlife protections, cultural resource safeguards, access for recreation and community connections.
Yacolt Burn State Forest include horseback riding, off-road vehicle riding, mountain biking, camping and hiking. Open year-round for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. Yacolt Burn State Forest has something for everyone.
Caves
Big 4 Ice caves. These beautiful caves are a natural phenomenon that occurs on the north face of Big Four Mountain. Avalanches fall off the mountain all winter and spring. As that snow continues to melt it turns into waterfalls that melts more snow at the base, creating caves. “”Warning… Ice Caves are Dangerous.”” More information….
Trout Lake Cheese Cave were used as a natural refrigerator in the 1930s and 1940s due to their 42 degree year-round temperature. The Guler Cheese Company was founded at a time when aged French bleu cheese was in short supply due to the political turmoil preceding World War II. The goal was to replicate the aging process used to make Roquefort cheese, using caves for storage and aging. More Information….
Gardner Cave. Descend 90 feet beneath the surface on a guided tour of the third-longest limestone cave in Washington. In 1899, homesteader Ed Gardner’s horse stumbled into the sinkhole that now marks the entrance to his namesake cave. Legend has it that Gardner used the cave as his base for a bootlegging business, until a streak of bad luck at poker resulted in the loss of his deed to William Crawford, who ultimately signed the property over to Washington State Parks. Ape Cave includes the easy exploration of a spacious lava tube, followed by more difficult travel through a smaller, longer, and more rugged lava tube to an exit. Then, enjoy an easy return hike winding through shady forest and crusty lava formations. Before you go, make sure everyone in your party is aware of the restrictions and conditions: No food, pets, smoking, or rock collecting. Do not touch the walls, which harbor cave “slime”, a food source in the cave’s delicate ecosystem. More information…
